Grace's Portfolio

Throughout this quarter of editing class I have learned a lot and my writing skills have definitely improved, when I first walked into this class I was nervous, I am the youngest there and everyone just knew exactly what they wanted to talk about and it just felt like everybody was a better writer than me and the class moved fast so it was difficult trying to keep up the whole time. When I was told that I could pick any topic that I wanted the class got just a little harder, writing is already hard but having to find your own topic and make new articles on it every week is just difficult. I knew right away that I wanted to write about beauty standards, they have had the largest impact on my life and I knew it was a topic I would be able to talk about and inform others about. My first article was hard, I wasn't sure how it worked yet and it just takes time to get into the groove of it and just be able to start writing, it was a pretty rocky start for me. I thought that there was no chance I would be able to write a new article on the same topic every week for a quarter. As I continued to research I learned so much more and it all just started to click, until this class I never knew how big of a deal beauty standards are and how many people struggle with the pressure that society puts on them. I definitely grew through this quarter and there was definitely improvement that I can see when I go back through my articles. The last article I wrote is definitely my best I think, I interviewed different people for it and put a lot of time into making questions and talking about them through the article, I feel like this class helped me open up and be able to talk to other people even when its hard topics to discuss. My progress may have been slow but I do belive that my writing improved during this class and will continue to improve because of the new skills I have gained.
